Considering collegial exchange, informal learning and attempts at friendship as a fundamental part of their remit, UKS presents HOW TO PRACTICE?, a popular walk-in workshop! Rotating local and international practitioners in the cultural field teach their particular version of this essential question, serving up their tricks and toolboxes, fears and desires, Excel sheets or yoga positions as we serve free coffee.
Starting off the workweek on occasional Mondays at 10 am, this season’s HOW TO PRACTICE? is hosted by artist-run gallery Hulias, Kunstnerforbundet and BO – Billedkunstnerne i Oslo, while UKS’ new location is closed for renovation.
#38 HOW TO PRACTICE? features two of the founders of the artist-run space 3 137 in Athens, artists Paky Vlassopoulou and Kosmas Nikolaou. Artist Sille Storihle will be facilitating the conversation which takes place at Atelier Kunstnerforbundet.
On the morning of 5 September, the conversation goes public and tackles questions of trauma, truisms and theory; privilege, priorities and pretension; blockages, blind spots and body; collaboration, collectivity and ex-and-inclusion; and sleep, working rhythms and how to take time off and how not to. While in residence at Atelier Kunstnerforbundet, Sille Storihle has been collaborating with 3 137, and is excited to bring Paky and Kosmas to Oslo to learn more about how they practice.
3 137 is an artist-run space in Athens, Greece, working from the political urgency and artistic interest of the artists Paky Vlassopoulou, Chrysanthi Koumianaki and Kosmas Nikolaou. 3 137 aims to create a meeting point for exchange and discussion. Its project space presents exhibitions, one-off projects such as performances, talks and workshops, as well as community- and research-based projects in collaboration with art professionals, scientists and friends.
The event will be held in English on the 4th floor of Kunstnerforbundet with no elevator. The space is not fully accessible but Kunstnerforbundet is currently working to make access more inclusive. Please get in touch with Kunstnerforbundet if you have any related questions.

En viktig del av UKS er å være et sted, et «samfund» for uformell, kollegial utveksling – fra kunstner til kunstner, praksis til praksis – og ikke minst en plattform for potensielle vennskap. Derfor re-introduserer de en ny sesong med den populære «walk-in-workshopen»: HOW TO PRACTICE? Forskjellige utøvere på kulturfeltet, både lokale og internasjonale, deler sine versjoner av spørsmålet «hvordan arbeide?». De vil presentere sine verktøy og triks, det de frykter og begjærer, regneark eller yoga-posisjoner, mens UKS serverer gratis kaffe.
HOW TO PRACTICE? sparker i gang arbeidsuka på utvalgte mandager kl. 10.00. Denne høstsesongen holdes workshopene på det kunstnerdrevne visningsstedet Hulias, Kunstnerforbundet og BO - Billedkunstnerne i Oslo, mens UKS holder stengt for oppussing.
#38 HOW TO PRACTICE? presenterer to av grunnleggerne av det kunstnerdrevne visningsstedet 3 137 i Athen, kunstnerne Paky Vlassopoulou og Kosmas Nikolaou. Kunstner Sille Storihle vil moderere samtalen som vil finne sted på Atelier Kunstnerforbundet.
Den 5. september tar kunstnerne den ellers private samtalen offentlig, og snakker om spørsmål som omhandler traumer, truisme og teori; privilegier, prioriteringer og pretensjon; konspirasjon, kropp og byråkrati; samarbeid, kollektivitet, eks- og inkludering; og søvn, arbeidsrytmer og hvordan balansere fritid. Sille Storihle har samarbeidet med 3 137 under deres residency-opphold i Atelier Kunstnerforbundet, og er glad for å ha Paky og Kosmas i Oslo for å lære mer om hvordan de praktiserer.
3 137 er et kunstnerdrevet visningssted i Athen, Hellas, med utspring i den sterke politiske og kunstneriske interessen til kunstnerne Paky Vlassopoulou, Chrysanthi Koumianaki og Kosmas Nikolaou. Målet med 3 137 er å skape et møtepunkt for utveksling og diskusjon. Visningsstedet organiserer utstillinger, engangsprosjekter som performancer, samtaler og workshops, så vel som samfunns- og forskningsbaserte prosjekter i samarbeid med kunstfagfolk, forskere og venner.
Samtalen holdes på engelsk og finner sted i Kunstnerforbundets loft i 4. etasje uten heis. Kunstnerforbundet er dessverre ikke universelt utformet, men de arbeider med et prosjekt som skal bedre tilgangen til bygget. Ta gjerne kontakt med Kunstnerforbundet dersom du har spørsmål om dette.
