Jan Freuchen
Opplysninger
Vindussalen and Kabinettet
20.10. – 20.11.22
In the exhibition Opplysninger [Illuminations] by Jan Freuchen, different materialities, techniques and temperaments are brought together in new constellations.
In the Vindussalen, drawings made by his daughter when she was five-years old are shown in connection with figures from the Neolithic or pre-Columbian eras. Freuchen's interpretations of these figures in contemplative poses, based on archaeological findings from distinctly different cultures, are sitting on cast stacks of pizza boxes and books. NRK’s theme from the 1980s is played from a headless lamp post resting on cast concrete plinths in Kabinettet, while paintings with various graphic symbols on the surrounding walls suggest measurements and registrations.
Freuchen mixes found and created materials in situations that invite the viewer to use their own associations to create their own connections.
